SUHO;INSUBSTATIAL REINFORCEMENT

The title of this project, Insubstantial Reinforcement aims to transform a material often associated as weak into something firm and reliable as the name suggests. Paper is characterized as light, flimsy, weak and frail material which makes it easily crushable and torn. It is often associated as an insubstantial material but this project aims to break the stereotype of paper being weak and prove that it is capable of becoming concrete. Amongst the variety of papers, Hanji, the Korean Traditional Paper rich in its unique properties was chosen to be experimented to fulfill the objective of this project.

SUHO means 'Guardian' in Korean. This set of Hanji Protective Gears are designed carefully to provide comfort and to protect children in the cases of collision and fall. Though the Hanji Protective Gears may experience wear and tear over the time, the new spectrum of colours would unreveal when the outer layer gets peeled off. It would help to encourage children to overcome the dear of falling as the new colours represent their honour and courage that they have obtained through practices. It is not only a functional but a whimsical product that safeguard the children and present them with 'surprises' after each fall.
